Skip the Movie and Get Trapped in Stacpoole's Incredible Writing

At first, I initially wanted to read this book because of a review I read about the book. The review stated that the book contained much more adult content than the 1981 film version. I hardly believed that, and after reading the book, I was beyond impressed by the quality of writing in 'The Blue Lagoon'. The actual story is interesting enough, but what really made me continue reading was the author's impressive voice. The way he describes the island, their thoughts and the day to day events are so enthralling that I could hardly put the book down. While 'The Blue Lagoon' is, in my opinion, the best in the collection, but his other works follow the same kind of quality as the titular story. Overall an exceptional piece of literature, and definitely worthy to be called one of the best of American literature.

Few Now Know this Author, Many the Title!

Blue Lagoon, the movie, was one of the sexiest non-X-rated, erotic movies ever made, and maybe the best. But it was a quite faithful adaptation of a novel written within the limits of late Victorian morality. This and Stacpoole's other novels are well worth looking into today, a look into a different world from ours, but one we inherit from.

Especially enjoyed The Beach of Dreams and The Pools of Silence

Very enjoyably novels. Especially enjoyed The Beach of Dreams and The Pools of Silence. I do wish more of Stacpoole's works were available; especially the two sequels to The Blue Lagoon, namely The Garden of God and The Gates of Morning. His writing is fantastic and his imagery describing 'the islands' is awe inspiring.
